2.7.3 has been slowly deteriorating in terms of Tor connectivity since it
was installed. It's sluggish compared to 2.7.2 and seems to have
difficulty maintaining Tor connections. 2.7.2 has been running fine on
three other systems. Environment Win10 x64, 2008R2, Win7x64, Win11.

One of the Win10 systems has the problem.

If 2.7.3 is used to provide Tor, the YAMN client suffers. Also
Thunderbird.

Thunderbird sucks dick anyway because it doesn't maintain connections
correctly so that's a given.

Xnews works okay but seems to lose Tor connectivity whereas on 2.7.2 does
not.

Agent same comments as Xnews.

Isolation.

IF TorExpert bundle or Tor Browser is used to supply Tor, there are no
problems, all works as it should except I lose the SMTP / YAMN benefits on
the local OmniMix.

If connecting from the Win10 system to OmniMix 2.7.2 on another system
(You can do this easily, just a minor network change on OmniMix) it works
like a champ.

I ran 2.7.2 on the Win10 system and saw 2.7.3, decided to give it a try.
I saved my old OmniMix folder so it's still there.

I upgraded a copy of the 2.7.2 folder to 2.7.3. This usually is a non-
event, historically works well.

Have just finished reverting back to the 2.7.2 version. This comes via
2.7.2.

2.7.0 Bugfix: A concurrent access to the OmniNym .ini file while closing the Nym
Configurator led to an application crash.
default list.
2.7.1 Bugfix: Minor popup hint issues fixed.
Irrelevant Cypherpunk statistics file 'rlist.txt' no longer downloaded.
Tor updated to a still customized version 0.4.9.0-alpha-dev
(git-d07810a3c96b7c06).
2.7.2 Main and Nym Configurator window now centered on first start.
Nym server keys (nym.mixmin.net / nymph.paranoici.org) updated.
2.7.3 If not 80, the port number is now added to the TorFile link copied to the
clipboard.
TorPlus .onion links with an appended port number separated by a colon are
now accepted by the dedicated HTTP server.

never had any problems with omnimix' built-in tor in windows 7, windows 10,
or windows 11; ditto for tor browser (windows 7/8 may go kaput october 1st)
the current omnimix tor "0.4.9.0-alpha-dev" is the same since version 2.7.1,
recommend fresh install of omnimix 2.7.3 to portable folder and reconfigure;
but i only use remailers for posting to newsgroups and have never used nyms
or other more advanced features available in omnimix, e.g., hidden services

whatever client is connecting to "localhost" should not affect functionality
although thunderbird/betterbird could be a problematic exception to the rule;
this list shows some of the most popular text newsreaders . . .

i've tested many of these extensively and still prefer 40tude dialog

newsgroup statistics xananews is also portable and works wonderfully

Possibly an unreliable Tor entry guard.

Try Tor - Cfg - Reset Status.

Thanks for the suggestion, didn't work. I tried resetting my cable modem,
router, switch, rebooted everything and YAMN is just not working.
Eveything else seems to be okay. Browsing, streaming, mixmaster all work.
The YAMN client hangs and I have to use taskmanager to kill it.

I had an odd coincidental problem with YAMN on Windows 10 after the last
update. I tried several things including a new YAMN client install and
nothing worked.

Warn: 2024/09/14 11:33:38 mail.go:329: SMTP Connection Error:
Server=127.0.0.1:2954, Error=EOF
Warn: 2024/09/14 11:33:38 mail.go:258: SMTP relay failed
Warn: 2024/09/14 11:33:38 pool.go:76: Pool mailing failed: EOF

All would fail with the above.

Eventually what I did do was change the publist and mlist sources one by
one, delete those files and try sending a vey simple test post getting new
source info at the same time. Third change was a charm and things were
working again. I noticed the same thing on a Windows 8 VM I run so it may
not be Windows update related.

Within the OmniMix system Mixmaster and YAMN only convert message,
statistics files downloads and packet forwarding are done by OM itself.

For troubleshooting there are all kinds of log lists, which may reveal
the cause of failure.

Design protocols and tools that don't need troubleshooting, and
actually work.
